We're Singing: Seeds Family Worship

My Mercy is a songbird. She loves music and she LOVES to sing. She sings about activities she's doing, she sings herself to sleep at night, she sings to her dolls and toys... and let's not forget her daily Frozen and Moana performances!

It always amazes me how she remembers words of songs she hasn't heard in months... but then again, I know in a heartbeat I could sing every word of "I Will Always Love You" or "Hero." No doubt, no matter how many months or years have passed.

There is just something about music that clicks in our brains and memory. Specifically, this:

...is that fascinating, or what??

So when my songbird recently decided it was time to learn how to spell her name, I turned to music. I sang the letters of her name, she sang them back to me, and within three minutes she had it memorized!

I have been SO excited to share and review some products and books we have in our home that are impacting our kids knowledge and understanding of God, and most certainly strengthening us as parents. Mercy's recent spelling adventure has me thinking about Seeds Family Worship today.

Y'all, this is an AMAZING tool in scripture memory! Both of our kids were learning and remembering God's Word at two years old because of these CDs and the way they set scripture to music. And of course, as they memorize, I have memorized as well, sharpening my own mind and memory toward His Word.

So, why memorize scripture with two year olds? And as parents, why memorize for ourselves?

When I questioned those things myself, I was pointed directly back to the Word:

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, found on The Word Of God disc)

As Christians and as parents, do we not all desire for our children to know God. Friends, there is no greater teacher of God than God Himself. His own words are teaching my two and four year old more about Him than their daddy and I ever could. Not only that, but they are training and equipping us in this position of parenting He has so graciously entrusted to us, while reminding us of our own fallen nature, redeemed for righteousness only by the blood of Jesus.

His words are infinitely valuable, and knowing them is infinitely worth it.

Friends, if you'd like to memorize scripture with your kids but you're not sure where to begin, or if you're struggling through what feels like an impossible task, I obviously recommend these CDs! We play them in the car and sing them in our home... and when the kids recite these truths that they're learning about God, we celebrate BIG!

I want to hear from y'all!

What memorization techniques and resources are y'all using with your kids?

If your family uses Seeds to memorize, what do you love about it?

How has scripture memory benefitted your family?
